Today we travel first to bustling Haverfordwest, an attractive and ancient county town of Pembrokeshire. The river Cleddau runs through the town making for many picturesque riverside walks. We then continue to St Davids, Britain’s smallest cathedral city and named after Wales’ patron saint. The cathedral which gives it its city status is built from local stone with a beautiful pink and grey colouring. Nearby are the ruins of The Bishop’s Palace and there are many other historical buildings throughout the town, as well as quaint shops and cafes. We return back to the hotel in time for our 'Christmas Dinner' complete with a complimentary glass of wine.

  • Day 3: Day at leisure or Carmarthen

Relax in Tenby or join our optional excursion to Carmarthen, known for its legendary connection to Merlin, with his alleged birthplace supposedly nearby. There was an old oak tree in the town that was said to be Merlin’s Oak, and the legend went that when the tree fell, so too would the town – when it finally did come down in 1978, Carmarthen suffered a terrible flood! The last piece of the oak is on display at Carmarthenshire County Museum, just outside of the town, along with other displays about the town’s Roman past. Its Roman origins can be seen clearly at the amphitheatre near Priory Street. From here it is just a short stroll to the indoor markets and town centre.

  • Day 4: Pembroke

This morning we take a trip to Pembroke, a charming walled town with a rich history dating back over 900 years. Pembroke Castle is one of the most complete Norman castles in the UK and was the birthplace of King Henry VII, founder of the Tudor dynasty. Today the pretty town has charming shops and cafes to enjoy alongside its many historic buildings. We return to the hotel for a festive cream tea.
